Today is “Person X Day“. I have never hear of such a day but this was the daily prompt for today.
October 16th is officially declared “Person X Day” — and you get to pick Person X. Tell us about someone who deserves to be commemorated.
What came to mind was not just one person but many. Not too many weeks ago I took some relatives that were visiting to the museums on Fort Riley. These are really outstanding museum on the history of units from Fort Riley. Anyway, I went outside to sit with her while we waited for the others. As were sitting on the bench outside of the 1st Infantry Division museum on an impulse I decided to take a quick look inside since I had not been inside for years. I entered one room that listed the soldiers that died in Desert Storm and the others that followed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Needless to say I knew many of them on the board because they visited my place of work to use the computers. It took all my might to keep from having a breakdown and start crying. So, I had to leave quickly. Therefore, instead of one person I want to honor all of these service members who died and the ones who may had survive but came back broken physical and mentally. This is the list from the Washington Post. I am not sure if this lists the ones who died that served in our military from other countries.
